The presence of old ammunition in the area presented a significant challenge for firefighters as they had to prioritize their safety and could not directly access the source of the fire due to the risk of explosions. The fire was further exacerbated by the wind, which repeatedly fueled its spread. The incident command reports that the total area affected by the fire exceeded 700 hectares, underlining the extensive impact of the blaze. Today, we had the opportunity to observe the collaborative efforts of the Ludwigsfelde fire department and other teams as they worked to extinguish the fire on the former military training area in Jüterbog.
